The Peacemakers and the Persecuted P2

September 17th, 2024|Acts|

Jesus was the greatest peacemaker of all time, and thus given the name, “Prince of Peace”. Through his death and resurrection, Christ reconciled sinful man to God, and peace was made with God. As believers seek to conform more and more into his image, it only follows that we, in turn, are also called to be peacemakers. We are reminded through today’s message how Christ came to bring peace, yet suffered extreme persecution in doing so. We too as Christians, should expect to experience the same as we stand for him and are obedient to his word. Paul informs us in 2 Timothy 3:12, “Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted”. In this last of the Beatitudes, take heart in knowing that when persecuted for righteousness sake, God’s blessing will result!

What do you do with the truth you know? The truth that dwells within you and spoke the world into existence cannot be confined to a manmade structure. As believers, we must seek to sow seeds amongst our friends, neighbours, and family. In the midst of distractions and idolatry, the Lord shines a light that shatters darkness.

Oh, to be Humble, Hungry & Holy P2

Many people consider the quality of “meekness” to be a sign of weakness in a person and therefore, undesirable. Christ once again turns a worldly belief upside down: Jesus tell us that the “meek shall inherit the earth” – not the ‘strong’. In fact, meekness in biblical terms is defined ‘as strength under control’: it is the surrendering of all power to the Lord because ultimately, he is the only one who truly has all the power. It is a refusal to defend oneself because we know and trust God to do so – and this is humility. Martin Lloyd-Jones aptly put it this way: ” To be truly meek means we no longer protect ourselves, because we see there is nothing worth defending” Amen!

In our last message, we learned how spiritual poverty leads to riches. As we continue in the Beatitudes, Jesus now tells us that sorrow leads to joy: how is this possible? The sorrow and mourning that Christ refers to is not worldly sorry, but the sorrow that results over our sin. Grief and devastation over sin furthers our walk in sanctification, changes us more and more into the image of Chris, and God himself will comfort and bless those who mourn in this way.
