January 22nd, 2024|The Life of David|

The greatest lesson we can learn from examining the life of David—shepherd, warrior, king, psalmist—is that, despite his sins, he was truly a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22). In the first of this new series, we’re introduced to David as someone the Lord has set apart for his faithfulness, for his character, for his courage, but especially, for his heart. Get ready to learn from David’s life!

Dead to sin and alive to God

January 21st, 2024|Life's Too Short Not to Grow in Christ!|

Genuine salvation will always produce genuine transformation. 2 Cor. 5:17 says ” therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come!” (ESV). The moment we are justified (saved) is the same moment we begin the journey of sanctification. We leave our ‘old’ life behind and begin our ‘new’ life following Christ. Sin still tempts, but as we walk in obedience growing in faith and holiness, and abiding in Christ, we sin less! We carry on in the knowledge that one day soon, we will be made perfectly sinless in His Presence forever.

Desperately in Need of Discernment P2

January 18th, 2024|Psalm 73: It's the Thought that Counts!|

As we continue to examine and walk through Psalm 73, we witness Asaph shift the focus of his thoughts away from this temporal, present world that is causing him to fall into self-pity, bitterness and despair. Instead, Asaph now considers the concept of eternity and the promises of God, his grace and goodness. It is here where he finds sanctuary, and as he draws nearer still to the Lord with a posture of gratitude and worship, Asaph’s heart is revived, his blindness is reversed and his joy is re-established.

Stinkin’ Thinkin’ P2

January 16th, 2024|Psalm 73: It's the Thought that Counts!|

Today we consider how the way we think impacts the way we live. When our thoughts are consumed by worldly influences, the result is a life that is distracted, unsatisfied and filled with despair. Conversely, when our thoughts are firmly set on the Lord, the result is a life that is filled with gratitude, wisdom and clarity. Romans 12:2 warns us not to be conformed to the world, but instead to be transformed by the renewal of our minds. In Psalm 73, Asaph recalls when his negative thoughts caused him to stumble and then distanced him from God – the battle in his mind led to a battle in his heart and eventually, despair.
